About us
We are Rodolfo and Yolanda, a Puerto Rican couple who have always found peace and beauty in the natural world. The textures of a rock, the shape of a river stone, the materials that the earth gives us — they have always spoken to us in a special way.
One day we discovered an ancient Japanese technique of working stone with natural fibers, and we were completely fascinated. What started as curiosity turned into passion. We started practicing it as a hobby, without any plan, just for the pleasure of doing it.
We learned to feel each stone, to read its texture, its weight, its unique shape. Each one has its own personality, and our job is simply to reveal it — wrap it with leather, rattan and organic fibers to create something that has presence, calm and meaning.
From that very personal and authentic process Ishikozen was born. Ishi means stone in Japanese, Ko means small, Zen represents inner calm, balance and connection with nature. Together, Ishi-ko Zen (or Ishiko Zen) symbolizes the art of finding calm and inner balance through nature. For example the stone.
Today every object that leaves our hands is unique and unrepeatable — just like the stones that inspire it. We do not manufacture in series. There are no two alike. Each piece is made with intention, with time and with the same love for nature that brought us here.
Welcome to Ishikozen. Made in Puerto Rico, with the soul put into each stone.
